Week of March 6, 2017: Charley Snyder
Our patient of the week is Charley, a 2-year-old golden retriever who visited our Allentown office yesterday. Charley, his sisters China and Abbie, and their mom and dad have visited our office for many years. We love this picture of Charley soaking up the sun and showing off his handsome smile! Thank you for sharing, Marianne - we love your "fur kids!"
Week of February 27, 2017: Schmidt U.
Check out Schmidt, our patient of the week, rocking his awesome shades with his buddy Shannon!
Schmidt is a 7-month-old pug who visited us this week to be neutered and to have a procedure to widen his nostrils. He received a quick postoperative cold laser treatment to speed up his recovery time - hence the googles!
Stenotic nares, a common condition in brachycephalic (or "smush-faced") pets, means the nostrils are narrow or pinched. This condition often results in snorting, wheezing, and other respiratory issues. Although not all dogs with stenotic nares require surgical correction, Schmidt's case was severe enough for Dr. Rilling to recommend removing some of the nasal wall tissue while he was under anesthesia for his neuter. He is expected to heal quickly and will be back to his spunky pug puppy self in no time at all!
Week of February 20, 2017: Dolce N.
This week's patient of the week is Dolce, a 5-year-old long haired chihuahua, our first official cold laser therapy success story!
Over the past months, Dolce's owner noticed that he often seemed uncomfortable and restless. After anti-inflammatory medication did not fully relieve Dolce's pain, Dr. Ferrari recommended a course of cold laser therapy treatments over his spine to reduce his inflammation and discomfort.
It has now been just three weeks since his first cold laser session and the results speak for themselves. Dolce's owner has been able to take him off his pain medications completely and reports an amazing improvement to both his physical and mental well-being!
Thank you for being such a wonderful patient, Dolce!
Week of February 13, 2017: Gia Figueroa
Our patient of the week is Gia, a 10-week-old Coonhound mix!
Gia visited our Allentown office for her first exam with Dr. Hersh this week. It looks like she and her big sister are best friends already - what a wonderful Valentine's Day treat! Special thanks to the Figueroa family for bringing Gia to meet us, we look forward to watching her grow with you!
Week of January 9, 2017: Harley of the Allentown Police Department
Our patient of the week is Harley, a member of the Allentown Police Department's K-9 Unit, nominated by Dr. Meyer! A 5-year old Belgian Malinois, Harley protects and serves our city with his partner, Officer Andrew Fegely.
Harley has been treated by Dr. Meyer in our Allentown office since he became a member of the APD in 2013. He was the first dog from Allentown to receive a ballistic vest from the HOWL program and along with Officer Fegely won the Fastest Dog Competition and the Decoy's Choice Award in the 2015 K9 Competition at Salisbury High School. Dr. Meyer also treats APD's other canine officers, Canto, Django, Remi, and Fedor.
Thanks to Officer Fegely's diligent training and Dr. Meyer's veterinary care, Harley will surely be serving our city for years to come!
Week of January 2, 2017: Evie & Henry Kellerman
Our first Patients of the Week of the new year are Evie and Henry, two adorable 8-week-old kittens who just had their first exams with Dr. Hersh!
These siblings are off to a great early start with routine veterinary care, making them the perfect candidates for Patients of the Week for our theme of new beginnings this January.
Thank you to Dr. Hersh for the Patient of the Week nomination and to the Kellerman family for entrusting us with the care of Evie and Henry! We look forward to watching them grow with you!
